A model is a person with a role to promote, display or advertise commercial products or to serve as a visual aid for people who are creating works of art or to pose for photography. Though models are predominantly female, there are also male models, especially model clothing.
Miss Melissa chidinma uzoigwe, who was a former FACE OF MARITIME INTERNATIONAL, during an interview with Aig media pro TV she started that models are not prostitutes rather they are role models people look up to. She said due to the nature of the job at times they put on a bikini, bomb short, transparent dresses for a shoot in other to portray a story. Seeing them with those things on does not portray models as prostitutes. They could be some bad eggs among models but it should not be used to generalize others.
Miss Melissa hails from Enugu state, a graduate of accountancy. I started modeling in my tertiary institution where I was crowned the Queen of my department, I represented my department in the school contest where I emerged runner up, after my successful reign I collected four different categories of awards from my department, I also contested for FACE OF PRESTIGE NIGERIA which I emerged as the first runner up. I did personal research and online training and in 2019 I contested for FACE OF MARITIME INTERNATIONAL and I emerged the winner. I was crowned the Queen with a car and cash prize, after my reign I have presented an award for excellence service during my reign.
I opened a unisex saloon in February 2020 in that same year I was on the runway for the Ogun State fashion show and by December the same year I won the Nigeria model of the year, I was given a Romania Gold award and I was made the cover page of fashion business magazine vol.3, I acted in a short movie called “STREET PROFIT” and this year I starred in a cinema film title” SATURDAY MORNING”.
I got lots of modeling jobs and continued my scouting as a model; I introduced my organic skincare products from my brand LISSA’SKONXEPT in February 2021. I didn’t go for any training to get to where I am today, it is only by God’s grace and knowledge, I started my modeling scouting with LAWMODELS on the 10th of December 2020.
The challenges upcoming models face are first, lack of funds for sponsorship. Second, it becomes difficult for them when they fall into the wrong agency, they face sexual harassment. Fourth, sometimes feel intimidated and inferior. Lastly, little or no pay for jobs, seasonal employment, or being rejected by agencies. Covid-19 made me believe in online trade and businesses so I believe I don’t necessarily have to go out to make money.
The Nigeria Modeling industry keeps improving by the day, although its system is slow so as a result of that, many people don’t believe in Nigeria Modeling industry and some still see it as a waste of time but I hope we get to the point where people will see it as a career and profession.
In the next 5years, I will be an international supermodel helping aspiring models achieve their dreams and attaining greater heights.
