Govs support continuous use of AstraZeneca vaccine, says no side effects reported by its members

The 36 states Governors of the federation through the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have backed the continued use of AstraZeneca vaccine in the country.

This was made known at the end of their meeting in a communique issued on Wednesday evening and approved by the NFG Chairman and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fadeyemi.

In an attempt to support the use of the vaccine, the governors urged that the vaccine is safe for use and there haven’t been any record of side effects for those who have taken a jab of it in Nigeria.

In line with the recent recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), Oyewale Tomori; a renowned virologist and COVID-19 Technical Advisory Group (CTAG) have urged that Nigeria should vaccinate eligible persons with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Concerns raised on the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine where recent reports of the adverse effect it had on people which had been suspended in some countries. This was part of deliberations discussed at the meeting of the NGF.

Oyewale had a concise description with the governors on the vaccine status roll out at the meeting.

In response, the governors stressed their belief in the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine as they collectively seek to encourage persons who are eligible take their jab.

The state executive had also urge the citizens of the country to report any negative effect noticed after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The meeting also was graced with the progress made with the States’ Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability project and reports from the Department for International Development and update on the reduced price of premium motor spirit.
